Beloved (or not??)

Jane, Caroline, Chris, Anne and Sally met at Sally's house today (26 April) to discuss Beloved.  Lorraine was unable to join us, sadly.  Very mixed responses to this one - Jane and Caroline gave it 5 stars, Chris and Sally 3, and Anne didn't rate it as she couldn't even bring herself to read it!  Sally had only coped by reading notes on line with every chapter and found it very hard to follow, and Chris had given up half way through.  The fact that Toni Morrison had a Nobel prize for literature and Beloved had won a Pulitzer prize didn't cut it with all of us, although there was some excellent imagery and very interesting questions to consider about who/what Beloved actually was.  Sally had found some questions on line to aid discussion but they seemed somewhat inane - next time I'll do better research.

We've fixed future dates as follows:
17 May All the light we cannot see
14 June Jeeves
July 5 A possible  lunch meeting in Cherbourg (to confirm)
August to catch up on our reading
September 6  Don Quixote
October 5 Alice in Wonderland (and Looking Glass - can't remember!)
November 8 Our Endless Numbered Days
December 6 - no book chosen yet.

Thanks to Zoe for encouragement with the Blog - let's see if this works!!
