Life after Life crosses two world wars seen through the eyes of Ursula and her family in middle England which Kate Atkinson captures perfectly. What sets this book, apart is the re living of episodes in Ursula's life and makes us look at what could happen if we had a second chance. Ursula's painful experience of the London blitz was particularly vivid and gave us a rare insight into the fragility of life.
The group loved the book but decided that it definitely needed a second reading to appreciate it even more due to its complexity and to appreciate the humour and clever writing.
More titles by Kate Atkinson were recommended: Case Histories, Started early took my dog ....
