THE GOLDFINCH
by Donna Tartt
"The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America
and a drama of enthralling power. Combining unforgettably vivid
characters and thrilling suspense, it is a beautiful, addictive triumph -
a sweeping story of loss and obsession, of survival and self-invention,
of the deepest mysteries of love, identity and fate."
We met on Tuesday 6th January at Christine's house. The only person not there was Caroline who was in hospital. We all wish her well and hope that she is home soon.
This beautifully written book with a painting at its heart captured everyone. It was seen to be study of grief and relationships. The vivid descriptions and construction of this novel certainly made us want to carry on reading. A gem of the story teller's craft. There were a few suggestions that the novel was a little over long but that did not really detract from the enjoyment.
