THE BEES
Caroline, Jane, Chris and Anne met at Anne's to discuss The Bees. Lorraine and Sal could not be with us but Lorraine had already informed us that she had not enjoyed the book. Sal had not read it as far as I'm aware.
As the title indicates, The Bees is a book about ... bees and how a hive operates. From that sense, I thought it was interesting but we all agreed the book failed to deliver and live up to the reviews on the cover which state that the book is 'Gripping', 'Frightening', 'Ambitious, Propulsive, Addictive'. It told the story of Flora, born/laid but unusually able to communicate on all levels in the hive and more importantly, able to lay eggs. Although, it was never explained how she managed to achieve this!
We decided that The Bees merited no more that 2 stars.
Next meeting is on Tues 9 June - not sure where? Book to be discussed, George Orwell's, 1984 and if we have time, Animal Farm
